Kelley Blue Book's (KBB) 5-Year Cost to Own Award is a coveted award because of its obvious value to for customers. It's presented to a certain number of vehicles and brands with the lowest projected cost of ownership. The cost is calculated based on extensive data that's put together for new cars for an initial five-year ownership period. Consideration is put on projected fuel costs, maintenance and repair costs, finance, insurance and state fees, as well as vehicle depreciation.
This award is given to help customers make more informed decisions when purchasing a new vehicle; it helps break down typical ownership costs. The
2013 Mitsubishi Outlander took home the award in the Mid-Size SUV/Crossover division.
